SURGICAL PRACTICE

Glaucoma

One of the leading causes of vision impairment, glaucoma is a sneaky disease that often advances without detection. The moment vision loss is evident, treatment is necessary.

What is Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is a progressive disease that damages the optic nerve, resulting in gradual loss of peripheral and then central vision. This process is slow and progressive. It’s often symptomless in the early stages. These factors are what make glaucoma one of the leading causes of silent vision loss in the U.S. Many patients do not realize they have glaucoma until it is severe.

There are many kinds of glaucoma. Through detailed screenings, Soni Vision can diagnose which type you may have and determine the best treatment strategy.

Glaucoma Prevention Screenings

Protecting your vision begins with prevention. At the Soni Vision Institute, we recommend routine glaucoma screenings, just as you would visit the dentist or have an annual physical. These check-ups allow us to detect glaucoma in its early stages, taking the essential steps to prevent it from worsening.

A glaucoma screening is easy – it is simply a complete eye exam, which is almost always covered by insurance. Our examinations are detailed and comprehensive.

We measure your eye pressure, peripheral vision, and dilate your pupils to evaluate the health of your optic nerve.

Treating Glaucoma

For those with glaucoma, there are treatment options to remedy your condition. While there isn’t an exact cure for glaucoma, there are treatments available to stop the disease in its tracks.

At Soni Vision Institute, we offer the most advanced glaucoma approach

  • Mild cases may be treated with eye drops
  • Moderate cases may require drops and painless in-office, laser procedures
  • Complex cases may even require surgery

Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS)

We also offer advanced glaucoma surgery options. We perform traditional glaucoma surgeries as well as MIGs (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery), a revolutionary new surgical approach which requires less cutting than traditional surgeries. Dr. Ruhi Soni performs MIGs regularly, as well as combined cataract-glaucoma surgeries, assisting patients in treating two critical conditions at once.

If you or a loved one are facing a glaucoma diagnosis, we’re here to help you navigate your condition. Contact the Soni Vision Institute for a consultation today.
